India’s garment exports in February reached US$12.145 billion, a 8.9% increase over the same period

The Clothing Export Promotion Council (AEPC) released its latest export data for February 2012. Clothing exports in February 2011-12 reached US$12.145 billion, an increase of 8.9% over the same period of last year. In February 2012, exports grew by 1.5% year-on-year. According to the rupee calculation, exports in February 2012 increased by 9.8% year-on-year.

Exports from the previous fiscal year increased by 4.2% compared with 2009-10, and total exports from April to March 2010-11 were US$11.163 billion.

U.S. apparel import In January 2012, U.S. apparel imports increased by 9.4% from the same period last year to reach US$6.7 billion.

In the same period, U.S. clothing imports from India increased by 2% to 308.6 million U.S. dollars, compared to January 2011, which imported 328 million U.S. dollars. In January 2012, US imports from China increased by 8.3% year-on-year, while imports from all other major suppliers, such as Vietnam, Indonesia, Bangladesh, and Mexico, increased by 15.4%, 17%, 14.3%, and 11.8%, respectively. Among the top six suppliers in the United States, Indonesia’s growth was the largest year-on-year.

EU apparel import In 2011, the EU’s apparel imports reached US$94.317 billion, an increase of 14% year-on-year. India’s exports to the EU in 2011 reached US$6.462 billion, an increase of 15.4%.

Among the EU imports in 2011, Bangladesh recorded the highest increase (35.34%), followed by India (15.45%), China (9.71%) and Turkey (9.44%). Compared with the same month of last year, all five major supply countries fell in EU imports in December 2011. The largest decline was in India, followed by Turkey.

Canadian Garments Imports Garments imported from India from January to December 2011 were US$313.7 million, a year-on-year increase of 14.2%. In January-December 2011, Canada’s global apparel import was US$8.677 billion, which was a 15% increase from January-December 2010.

China, Bangladesh, Cambodia, the United States, Vietnam and India are Canada's top clothing suppliers. Among these top suppliers, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, the United States, Vietnam, and India exported garments to Canada from January to June 2011 by 10%, 32.9%, 49.6%, 5.9%, 29.3% and 14.2%, respectively. .

From January to December 2011, Indian apparel exports to Canada amounted to US$313.7 million, a year-on-year increase of 14.2%. In the year of 2011, Canada’s global apparel imports were US$8.677 billion, an increase of 15.1% over 2010.
