In a recent conversation, insiders in the Henan children's clothing market pointed out that the industry is undergoing a significant transformation. As the old saying goes, "The spring river flows eastward, and the duck knows it first." Yesterday morning, at Yin Qi Trade City, three stalls were bustling with activity, and Qi Zheng boss shared with the Commercial Daily that the current state of the Zhengzhou garment industry has taken a new direction.
"Things have changed so much that it's almost unrecognizable," said 36-year-old Zheng boss, who has been in the industry for years. He explained that many businesses are shifting from traditional categories like pants to tops, and some men’s clothing companies are now entering the children’s wear sector. "It's a big shift," he added.
This transformation could be attributed to either an industrial evolution or the impact of the economic crisis. The rapid changes have left even long-time practitioners confused. One clothing brand owner with nearly a decade of experience said, "I've never seen the garment industry in Zhengzhou like this before. It's all over the place—pants businesses moving into coats, men’s wear turning into pants, it's chaotic."
On the afternoon of the same day, Li Gang, secretary general of the Henan Provincial Garment Association, confirmed to the Commercial Daily that top-tier brands like Dream Shuya, known for its pants, have entered the women's clothing market. Similarly, well-known companies such as Nuremberg have also expanded into new segments. Previously, Zhengzhou’s largest men’s clothing company, Dusen, entered the women’s pants market, followed by other pants manufacturers branching into different areas.
"If a company moves from one sector to another without a clear reason, there must be a strategic motive," said one insider. Zheng boss was particularly curious: "Why is Dream Shuya now expanding into both legs? What does that mean?"
Meanwhile, Tim Ding, a leader in the children's wear industry, described the growth of local enterprises with pride. While some might consider their ambitions exaggerated, the reality is that the children's clothing sector is gaining momentum. On December 14, a children's clothing company was established in Gongyi City, aiming to become a nationally recognized brand. According to Ms. Feng, the company's chairman, "Our sales revenue is expected to reach 1 billion yuan next year."
Her confidence stems from the growing demand in the market. There are more than 10 well-known domestic children's clothing brands, and over 10 international ones. However, many products in the Henan market still suffer from issues like high pH levels or excessive formaldehyde, which leaves room for improvement. With more than 30 million children under 16 in the province, the potential is vast.
Earlier on the 13th, the Zhengzhou Garment Chamber of Commerce established four new sub-chambers: First Avenue, casual wear, foreign trade, and children's clothing. Now, the chamber will consist of 10 sub-chambers in total. "This marks the maturation of the industry," said Li Xingchao, president of the First Avenue Chamber of Commerce.
