In recent discussions, insiders in the Henan children's clothing market have pointed out that the industry is undergoing a significant transformation. As the saying goes, "A duck knows when spring is coming," and this seems to be true for Zhengzhou’s garment sector. On a recent morning, at Yin Qi Trade City, three stalls were bustling with activity. Qi Zheng boss, who has been in the business for years, told the *Commercial Daily* that the current situation in Zhengzhou’s garment industry is quite different from before. “You just can’t imagine,†he said, explaining how some businesses are shifting from pants to tops, and others are moving into children's wear. This shift reflects a broader transformation within the industry.
Thirty-six-year-old Zheng boss, who has been in the garment business for over a decade, feels the changes more than ever. “It’s like the whole industry is changing overnight,†he said. “Some men’s clothing companies are now making pants, while others are entering the children’s clothing market.†He added, “It’s a complete mess, but it also shows the industry is evolving.â€
Li Gang, the secretary general of the Henan Garment Association, confirmed to the *Commercial Daily* that several top-tier brands are expanding their reach. For example, Dream Shuya, once known as the top pants brand in Zhengzhou, has now entered the women’s clothing segment. Similarly, Nuremberg, one of the industry’s leading names, has also expanded into women’s fashion. Previously, Dusen, the largest men’s clothing company in Zhengzhou, has entered the women’s pants market, followed by other major pants manufacturers branching into new areas.
If an unnamed enterprise in Zhengzhou shifts from one sector to another, it likely has a deeper reason behind it. Zheng boss is curious: “Why is Meng Shuya, the industry leader, moving into two different fields? What does that mean?â€
Meanwhile, Tim Ding, a representative from a children's clothing enterprise, described the growth potential of the industry with confidence. Though the term “national brand†might seem exaggerated, the company is aiming high. On December 14, a children's clothing manufacturer was established in Gongyi City, with the goal of becoming a nationally recognized brand. When contacted, Ms. Feng, the company’s chairman, said, “Our sales revenue will hit 1 billion yuan next year.†Her confidence stems from a deep understanding of the market—there are over 10 well-known domestic children’s brands and more than 10 international ones. However, many local products still face quality issues, such as high pH levels or excessive formaldehyde, which leaves room for improvement.
With more than 30 million children under the age of 16 in the province, the demand for safe, high-quality children's clothing is growing rapidly. On December 13, the Zhengzhou Garment Chamber of Commerce announced the establishment of four new sub-chambers, including casual wear, foreign trade, and children’s clothing. Now, the total number of chambers under the association will reach ten.
“This is a sign that the industry is maturing,†said Li Xingchao, president of the First Avenue Chamber of Commerce. The shift toward specialization and diversification suggests that the garment industry in Zhengzhou is not only adapting to market demands but also preparing for long-term growth.
