It's been quite some time since my last "Ask Me" post! This week, I thought I'd dive into some of your questions about our women’s pattern lines, specifically the Lisette collection and our newer Liesl + Co. patterns.

I've noticed that the quality of the Lisette fabric seems to be better than most other fabrics at Jo-Ann. While you design the patterns and colorways, do you also have any influence over the fabric quality?
Absolutely! I'm happy to share that I do have a significant say in the quality of the fabrics we use for the Lisette collection. I invest a lot of time researching and sourcing different materials, always on the lookout for fresh ideas. Our sateen, twill, and lawn have quite the fanbase, and we recently introduced an excellent chambray to the spring lineup. I'm super excited about it and hope to expand on this fabric in the future. Additionally, we’ve added a fantastic voile, which, upon closer inspection, has a twill weave. This gives it a wonderful texture and flow, making it perfect for spring and summer blouses or even lined dresses.

Will you be expanding the range of women’s patterns?
Definitely! We were thrilled by the positive response to our first Liesl + Co. collection, and we're currently working on new styles for 2014. You can expect to see many more women’s patterns from us, featuring various silhouettes and difficulty levels. This is something I've been eager to pursue for a long time, so I’m absolutely thrilled about where this is heading.
We also have a new Lisette pattern set to release in mid-February—stay tuned! (Unfortunately, we can't share sneak peeks before the official release date.) The dress is adorable and versatile, and I’m personally sewing the jacket for myself right now—I absolutely adore it!

Who are some of your favorite artists? I’m curious about photographers, painters, sculptors, but I’d also love to hear about musicians, designers, or architects if they come to mind.
There are so many! Did you know that Todd is a docent at the Whitney Museum on weekends? If you’re ever in New York at 12:30 on a Sunday, there’s a good chance you can join him on one of his tours—he’d love the company! His insights into the art world have deepened my appreciation, and the more I learn about each artist’s process, background, and inspirations, the more I enjoy their work. Right now, some of my favorite artists include Joan Mitchell, Agnes Martin, Charles LeDray, Lee Bontecou, and Doris Salcedo.

For instance, I often find myself reflecting on how art has shaped my life. Growing up, my parents encouraged me to explore museums and galleries, which sparked a lifelong passion for creativity. Over the years, I’ve developed a particular fondness for abstract expressionism, especially the works of Joan Mitchell. Her bold brushstrokes and vibrant colors feel almost meditative to me.
We also have a growing art collection at home, featuring pieces by artists like Sean Scully, Glenn Ligon, Collier Schorr, Loretta Lux, and Robert Lazzarini. Living with these artworks brings so much joy to all of us. Every year, for my daughter S’s birthday, she gets to choose a small artwork as her gift. Recently, she’s been drawn to portraits of animals by Sharon Montrose. As her ninth birthday approaches, we’re already discussing what she might want this year.
