Welcome back, Meagan! It's always a pleasure to have you share your expertise with us. Over the years, you’ve graced our blog with fantastic content like your ruffled sleeve tutorial, marbled yoke dresses, and your love for the Oliver + S patterns. This time, you're taking us along on a fabric shopping adventure in your hometown of Phoenix, Arizona—affectionately known as the "Valley of the Sun." Thank you so much for joining us today!
Shopping for fabric in a foreign country can be tricky, especially when the sewing terms don't translate easily. To make life easier, we developed the Sewing Translator, which many of you have helped build and use. It’s now available in 14 languages, and if you have an iPhone or iPad, you can download it to use offline too. We hope it proves helpful as you explore fabric shops around the world. You can find it in the Apple App Store—it’s completely free!
Now, let’s dive into Phoenix, where temperatures can soar above 115°F in the summer. While it might be unbearably hot, the winters are mild and beautiful, attracting seasonal visitors who come to escape colder climates. As the fifth-largest city in the U.S., Phoenix offers a mix of urban growth and desert charm. Although we may not have as many high-end fabric stores as larger cities, the ones we do have are hidden gems worth exploring.
One of my absolute favorites is SAS Fabrics Superstore. The name alone suggests a treasure trove, and it doesn’t disappoint. This massive warehouse is packed with everything fabric-related you could imagine. As soon as you walk in, you'll be greeted by endless aisles filled with fabric bolts, trims, and notions. Whether you’re looking for silks, knits, or quilting cottons, SAS has it all. And if you're into embellishments, they’ve got appliqués, foam, and trims galore. It’s easy to lose track of time wandering through their incredible selection.

Next up is 35th Ave Sew and Vac, a family-owned quilt shop with a twist. Not only do they specialize in quilting fabrics, but they also stock a wide range of sewing machines, from beginner models to professional industrial embroidery machines. Their thread selection is mind-blowing—they might just rival their fabric offerings. They also host regular events and sewing classes, making it a community hub for fabric enthusiasts.

Finally, there’s another SAS location that’s a bit different from the first. This SAS store is smaller but specializes in unique fabrics you won’t find at big chains. Each visit feels like a treasure hunt, with new items appearing seemingly out of nowhere. Be prepared to dig through boxes and browse meticulously organized trim shelves because you never know what hidden gems you’ll discover. It’s a true fabric lover’s playground.
While Phoenix’s fabric scene may not be as extensive as other cities, the stores we do have are special in their own right. Each shop offers something unique, whether it’s the variety, quality, or atmosphere. When you visit, I highly recommend checking out a few of these spots. You won’t leave empty-handed—I promise you’ll find something extraordinary!
As always, thank you for reading, and I hope this guide inspires your next fabric shopping trip. Until next time, happy sewing!

**P.S.** Don’t forget to grab the Sewing Translator app before your travels. It’s an invaluable tool for anyone venturing into unfamiliar sewing territories.
